UIHC begins to expand newborn scanning technology throughout locations

“UIHC Launches Nationwide Expansion of Advanced Newborn Scanning Tech”

University of Iowa Health Care is implementing CertaScan, a digital footprinting technology for newborns, to enhance security and efficiency in patient care.

A cutting-edge security technology known as CertaScan is being implemented by the University of Iowa Health Care to enhance newborn identification and streamline electronic medical records. This state-of-the-art scanner captures the mother’s fingerprints along with the baby’s footprints, ensuring a foolproof method of identification that surpasses traditional ink and paper techniques.

The transition from paper to digital records in healthcare facilities worldwide makes CertaScan an essential tool for maintaining accurate and secure patient information. University of Iowa Health Care has been utilizing CertaScan for over a year on its main campus and is now extending this innovative technology to its downtown medical campus.

Jennifer Miller, the chief administrative officer, emphasized the significance of CertaScan as a new standard for newborn identification, aligning with the evolving trends in healthcare towards digitalization and patient-centric care. By integrating CertaScan with their existing electronic medical record system, the hospital aims to enhance security measures and provide a consistent level of care across all locations.

Furthermore, Shayla Malone, nurse manager of the Maternal Child Department, highlighted the unique aspects of CertaScan, such as the ability for parents to order custom items featuring their baby’s digital footprint. This system not only enhances safety and security in the hospital but also offers a personalized experience for parents moving beyond traditional methods.

David Yarnell, CEO of CertaScan Technologies, shared his vision of expanding the technology to more hospitals in Iowa, emphasizing the precise identification, ease of use, and enhanced patient satisfaction that CertaScan offers. With a focus on collaboration with organizations like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, CertaScan aims to provide a comprehensive solution for newborn identification in healthcare settings.

Overall, the implementation of CertaScan at University of Iowa Health Care reflects a commitment to innovation, security, and patient-centered care, paving the way for a more efficient and personalized healthcare experience for families.
